Sophia is a photographic artist based in a village in North Yorkshire, nestled between Teesside and the North York Moors. Her passion lies in nature and landscape photography. She is fortunate to reside in an area boasting a diverse range of landscapes, including woodlands, rivers, the  moorland and the coast. Consequently, much of her work is created close to home.

Sophia has enjoyed the creative arts since a young age and studied art to A-level.  After school her career led her away from artistic pursuits for a period. She rekindled her interest in art when her children became old enough to allow her time to focus on personal interests. Photography, with its potential for swift creative results compared to traditional painting became her chosen medium. A decade later, Sophia continues to learn, explore, and experiment with her craft.

Photography offers Sophia an escape from the pressures and demands of professional life. She relishes being outdoors, immersing herself in capturing the essence of the scenes before her. She enjoys observing the landscape's transformations across seasons and the transient effects of light throughout the day and year. Revisiting local locations enables her to delve deeply into these changes.

Drawn to abstract and painterly images, Sophia utilises both her iPhone and digital mirrorless camera to capture textures, colours, movement, and light. She employs in-camera techniques such as intentional camera movement and multiple exposure, alongside single-image still photography, often blending images during post-production.

Sophia’s intent is to convey to viewers a sense of place and moment, using her techniques to encapsulate the unique atmosphere of each scene.
